Are you interested in pro bono work? The DPA organizes and runs multiple events throughout the year that need volunteers, and supports a number of organizations that need help on a regular basis. Check out the Events page for upcoming pro bono opportunities. Remember, for every 3 hours of legal-based pro bono work, you receive 1 CLE credit towards renewing your DCP certification! If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact the Pro Bono Director.
DVLS serves indigent residents throughout the State of Delaware by providing quality, pro bono legal services. They try to ensure that those individuals without financial resources will receive the same access to justice in civil matters as other litigants. The DPA assists with several events/programs offered by DVLS, such as:
Pro Bono Celebration 5K Run/Walk – Ready. Set. Volunteer! DPA members assist with this annual DVLS fundraiser by registering athletes and course marshal support.
PFA Pro Bono Program - Volunteers sign-up for a Friday in Family Court, assisting attorneys to help victims of domestic violence in obtaining Protection from Abuse Orders (PFA's).
Wills for Seniors - DPA members assist with drafting and execution of estate documentation of local seniors at periodic Wills for Seniors Clinics.
High School Mock Trial Competition
The Delaware Law Related Education Center ("Delrec") host an annual mock trial competition for high school students across the state of Delaware in the New Castle County Courthouse. Students are given a scenario and play the roles of witnesses and attorneys. Actual Judges and Attorneys from Delaware act as jurors and judges. The students are scored and awards are given out. The DPA assists Delrec by providing runners to escort the Judges/Attorneys throughout the courtroom and deliver the scoring sheets. You get to sit in and watch the competition as well! It's always a fun day. The Mock Trial Competition is held in late February every year. Please consider volunteering your time!
Wills for Heroes
The Wills for Heroes programs provide essential legal documents free of charge to our nation’s first responders, including wills, living wills, and powers of attorney. By helping first responders plan now, they ensure their family's legal affairs are in order before a tragedy hits. The 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit Wills for Heroes Foundation supports these Wills programs, giving back to the community and "protecting those who protect us." The DPA assists with events by providing witnesses and notaries to sign the documents once prepared. Let's do our part and help those that help keep us safe!
Community Legal Aid Society, Inc.
